Trout and Salmon

Here are a couple of fishy characters. The splashes of color in the background was accomplished by using a small bottle with a needle applicator. The bottles were filled with various colors of watercolor, then sprayed on the paper. Additional drops of clear water were sprayed on to soften some of the edges.

Great work -- I love the background effect, and know exactly the type of bottle you are talking about. I never thought to use it in this way!

They are such happy looking fish! You did a beautiful job and I'm very impressed with the spraying on technique. It really looks like underwater! Now I want to go spray my bedroom walls! good thing I don't have a bottle like that. what sort of bottle (like what comes in it) do you mean? If that's not giving away a secret method.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments!

"good with color" - These bottles are called Oiler Boilers. You can see what they look like on Cheap Joe's site at : http://www.cheapjoes.com/art-supplies/4951_oiler-boilers.asp

Oops, now the secret is out (ha).

These are just beautiful. The colors are glorious, and I really like the combination of the controlled line work with the chaotic background. Thanks for sharing your technique for the water. It looks like so much fun. I will be trying that myself for sure.
